11 Years and Counting...

Ben and I went on Saturday to enjoy a long date (starting at 3:30) for our 11th anniversary! It was actually on the 20th but we were up North with my family. Our typical fun date is dinner, movie and reading time at Borders. We had a great time being able to talk and laugh without the boys... In honor of our anniversary, I decided to attach a poem my wonderful friend Chris wrote. She and her husband taught a marriage class Ben and I were in and she handed this out to everyone at the end. She writes many poems and has given them to me for different occasions. Chris has been an amazing support and prayer partner for me.

The Journey of Love

It starts with a spark, ignited in the heart

Two souls collide

Two souls embrace

Whimsical, carefree and light

You begin to fall in love...

unaware and wholly blissful

the other does no wrong

idealistic, hopeful, and daring

You plunge forward with your love

committed fully to the other

while anticipating the ceremony of your union

The others wrongs quickly forgiven

Eagerly, earnestly, and awkwardly

You create your home for love

Learning to live side by side in a

place where each seeks understanding

for temperaments yet unfolding

But then!!

Recklessly, desperately, sometimes angrily

your love seeks only its own

Defenses build, wounds form, and words scathe

like coals of fire

For moments, your love may seem to lie dormant

Frail, unsettled, maybe even weary

When miraculously, benevolently, and without fail

reconciliation conquers

it starts with a spark

ignited in the heart, expressed by the soul

empowered by the Creator, and completed in the Spirit
