School

I recently snapped a few pics while volunteering in Reese's class. We're on the home stretch with Kindergarten and it has been a GREAT year. Can't believe how fast its gone (why didn't it go this fast when I was in school??). His teacher has been such a blessing and we're not sure who will miss her more, Reese or us (his parents). We've all loved her and have been talking about the difficulty of transitioning to someone new. Kindergarten has been so fun for him! He loves pretty much everything about it though if you ask him if he's learned a lot he says, "Not really, but I sure have taught my teacher quite a few things!" He watches Magic School Bus or Bindy the Jungle girl and reports scientific or animal facts to her almost daily. He translates his teacher's 'interest' as though he is truly teaching her. One of his favorite parts of his day
is hearing the daily "Why question" from the Why book. It age appropriately relates science to their everyday life (like, 'Why is the mirror foggy when I take a shower?') and Reese is all over that. He recently asked, "Dad, let's see if there is a 'howdothingswork.com' ". Sure enough, there is- or something very close, and he's been learning all sorts of things. Lately, he and his dad have been researching how a car works. Reese could tell you exactly what happens when you turn the key. It is so fun to see him grow, learn and be interested. He is our little scientist- always up for a new experiement. I marvel at God's work when I see him and think about how smart he is. He was born a blue baby- with an 'apgar' score of 1 (1 out of 10, 0 would mean he was dead). He had a very scary introduction into this world. It took them 4 minutes to get him to breathe on his own. Those were a LONG 4 minutes. What I remember is Ben and I's instinct to pray out loud. We both just prayed "Lord be with him, Lord help him" over and over. That faint little cry that first came out of him was the most beautiful sound... Don't think I can ever forget it. At 5 minutes, his apgar rose to a 6, still not great by medical standards. At Reese's six week apt., the Dr. looked at that info. and raised his eyebrows. When I questioned him he said, "Well, we'll just watch him like we do all the other babies....". As a former Special Ed. teacher, I knew what he meant. Long story to say that when you hear me bragging about how smart Reese is, I am not really bragging as a proud parent (though I am so incredibly pround of both boys), I am marveling at what God gave us and We give Him the glory for who Reese is today. We love our little scientist and feel privileged to watch what God has for him.

My goodness - what a blessing you have in that kid! In both kids. But what a story to hear again... God has big plans for that boy. : ) He sure loves science! Maybe he will be a teacher or professor someday or the next Enstein! Ya never know.
